Ιn , batteries and pumped-hydro storage have been identified as the leading storage technologies for islands, with the former effectively applicable to small and medium size system and the latter to large systems with natural reservoirs.

Electricity storage is crucial for power systems to achieve higher levels of renewable energy penetration.
The review process identified three main storage typologies suitable for deployment in island systems: (a) storage coupled with RES within a hybrid power station, (b) centrally managed standalone storage installations, and (c) behind-the-meter storage installations. Of particular interest are the former two, which dominate the relevant literature.
